Thanks for all the help with the Superheroes4orphans Walk-a-thon in Atlanta in September 2014. We raised $72,000 for orphans in Africa and the programs that support them. Over 820 volunteers came out to walk 5 km at Georgia Tech. Many friends and neighbors of our volunteers came out to help. My friends and neighbors came over to my house, dropped checks in my mailbox, and flagged me down in the street to donate to the orphan programs. The funding will supply food, educational materials, health care, staff salaries training, capacity building, and program development for these programs in Africa.

The orphan epidemic in Africa due to AIDS continues to grow and UNICEF has estimated that there are 16,000,000 orphans in Africa that now face increasingly desperate challenges due to lack of health care, education, nutrition, child protection, and increasing poverty. Millions of young girls are now at risk of rape, abuse, and violence. Hope Worldwide has worked with orphans in Africa for 20 years and it has provided care and support to 172,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa. “Best Practice” models for community-based, comprehensive care and support have been developed and need to be scaled up to meet the need of these children. Please let us know if you and your company can support this event, these volunteers, or these orphans in Africa.
